Women Gymnastics Individal All-around Finals

Wow! The women gymnasts are absolutely incredible, aren't they?
Here are the champions:
Shawn Johnson, of the U.S., silver
Nastia Liukin, of the U.S., gold
Yang Yilin, of China, bronze

Michael Phelps

Wow! That Michael Phelps is really something, isn't he?

Chinese Women Gymnasts

These are the cute little Chinese gymnasts who won all three medals Wednesday night at the Beijing Olympics. Did you see the event? They are really, really good.

However ... The Olympics rules require that the women gymnastic competitors be at least 16 years old. They tell me that the Chinese government has issued official passports showing these little girls to be 16. Look at this photo, and you decide. This old bullfrog has doubts.

Buck Deer

Well, well, look at this big guy in the backyard.

The buck still has velvet (fuzz) on his antlers.

Aaron Piersol

This feller jes' yesterday won the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing in the 100-meter backstroke competition. He also set a new world record, beating the world record he had already set when he won three gold medals in 2004 at the Summer Olympics in Athens. Wow!

Now ... did you know this feller is a Texas Longhorn? He lives in Austin and is a Texas-Ex, and he used to compete on the UT swimming team.

One of the best things about him is that he is a spokesman for Oceana, the organization that is working to support world's oceans. They tell me you can find out more about Oceana at it's website http://www.oceana.org/north-america/home/. Also, he has a website to take a look at: http://racefortheoceans.org/

He came originally from California, but I guess we can forgive him for that.

Winner of the Texas Junior Masters Tournament

This kid just won the Texas Junior Masters Golf Tournament held last weekend in Bastrop.

He's won so many trophies, I think he's probably lost count. Pretty darned amazing!

But this time he was awarded a Blue Jacket (like the Green Jacket awarded at the Masters Tournament every April in Augusta, Georgia).

Summer Fun!

Well, my laddies, this is "The Austonian."

It will be 56 stories. Scheduled to open year after next (2010).

And ... My God! ... it will be the tallest residential building west of the Mississippi. And this is in Austin, Texas.

Central Texas just ain't what is used to be, for sure!

Birthday!

Happy Birthday ... to Bill and Barack!

"The Impressionists" at the Kimbell Art Musuem

"The Impressionists," an exhibition at the Kimbell Art Museum

Claude Monet

Gustave Caillebotte

Pierre-Auguste Renoir

Vincent van Gogh

Some of my good pals went to visit the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth to see an exhibition there of artworks of the Impressionists of 19th Century France. When they returned, they told me that the exhibition was spectacular.

So ... this old frog is tryin' to soak up a little culture these days.

Seattle to Spokane by Bike

One of my pals just made a bike ride across the entire State of Washington. I mean, from Seattle to Spokane. Over the North Cascades Mountains. On a bicycle!

Incredible!

She's just a tiny, skinny little thing. Must be all grit and muscle!

Goin' Swimmin'

Well, I tell ya,' the way to beat the heat of the Texas summer is to jump into a swimmin' pool. These kids got the right idea.

Then ... some fellers just take life easy.
